How does the IB MYP coincide with Common Core?
MYP principles and philosophy align with Common Core State Standards (CCSS). MYP is not a curriculum itself; rather, it provides a framework for curriculum. The CCSS establishes guidelines for math and English language arts (ELA) as well as for literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subjects. These standards can be combined in meaningful ways and infused into IB units.
The skills and knowledge captured in the ELA/literacy and Mathematical CCSS are designed to prepare students for life outside the classroom. They include critical-thinking skills, the ability to read complex works of literature, research and evaluate sources, and determine if a particular mathematical statement is true and makes sense. These are all IB principles.
